What it’s like working with a professional makeup artist

Working with a professional makeup artist means a calm, unhurried experience built entirely around you — I come to you, take time to understand the look you want, and use professional products and technique so it photographs beautifully and lasts all day. You don’t need any skill or supplies of your own; you just turn up as yourself and relax while I do the rest.

What actually happens at the appointment

Because I’m fully mobile, the appointment comes to you — at home, a hotel, or wherever you’re getting ready. There’s no studio to travel to. A typical session runs like this:

  • A quick chat. We talk through your event, your outfit colours, the lighting, and how you want to feel — soft and natural, glowing, or full glam.
  • Skin prep. I cleanse, prep and prime so the makeup sits well and wears comfortably on your skin type.
  • The look. Full face, blended for your features and the camera, including lashes if you’d like them.
  • A finishing pass. We check it in natural light, set it to last, and tweak anything until it feels right.

You can see how this works for events and milestones on the special occasion makeup page.

Why it beats doing it yourself for a big day

Doing your own makeup is lovely for everyday — but a big day is different. The stakes, the photos and the nerves all change the equation. Here’s the honest comparison:

Doing it yourselfWorking with a professional
Rushing on the morningI handle timing so you relax
Guessing what photographs wellBuilt for cameras and Perth light
Hoping it lastsPro products and setting for all-day wear
Limited to your own kitA full professional range and shade match
One pair of hands, lots of pressureCalm, experienced, done-for-you

After 10+ years and training with Lancome, YSL, Giorgio Armani and Mecca, I can read a face quickly, match colour properly, and solve little problems — redness, breakouts, hooded eyes — before they ever show up in a photo.

How to get the most out of your session

A great result is a team effort, and a few small things help enormously:

  • Come with clean, moisturised skin and your hair done or roughly styled.
  • Bring one or two inspiration photos so I can see the finish you’re picturing.
  • Mention any sensitivities, allergies or products you love or avoid.
  • Have your outfit colours in mind — necklines and tones guide the whole look.

Don’t worry if you’re unsure what suits you. That’s my job. I’ll suggest what works for your features and the occasion, and we decide together.

What it feels like

Most people are surprised by how relaxing it is. You sit back with a cuppa, we chat, and a look you’d never quite manage yourself slowly comes together. Whether you’re getting ready in Fremantle, out in the Swan Valley, or anywhere across Perth, the goal is the same — you look unmistakably like you, just polished, and you walk into your event feeling completely yourself.
