What happens at a bridal makeup trial?
A bridal makeup trial is a relaxed practice run before your wedding where we design your look together — I test products on your skin, you see exactly how you’ll look in photos, and we fine-tune until it feels unmistakably you. By the time the morning comes, there are no surprises and no decisions left to make.
What actually happens at a trial
A trial is a calm, unhurried session — usually 90 minutes to two hours, far longer than the wedding morning, so we can take our time. Here’s the flow:
- Chat first. We talk through your dress, your colours, your venue and how you want to feel — soft and natural, glowing, or a little more glam.
- Skin prep. I cleanse, prep and prime so we can see how your skin behaves with the products.
- Apply your look. Full face, including lashes, exactly as it would be on the day.
- Live in it. You wear it for a while, check it in different light, and we see how it settles.
- Adjust together. Want more coverage, a softer eye, a different lip? We change it then and there.
Because I’m a fully mobile artist, the trial happens wherever suits you — at home with a cuppa, or somewhere with good natural light. You can read more about how it all works on the bridal makeup page.
What to bring (and have ready)
The more I can see, the better I can match your look to the day. Bring or have handy:
| Bring | Why it helps |
|---|---|
| Inspiration photos | Shows me the finish you’re picturing |
| A photo of your dress | Necklines and colour guide the whole look |
| Any veil, jewellery or hair accessories | We style around them |
| Notes on your skin | Sensitivities, breakouts, what you love or avoid |
| Your own go-to lipstick (optional) | Handy for touch-ups later |
Come with clean, moisturised skin and ideally your hair done or roughly styled — it helps us judge the whole picture together.
Why a trial removes the morning stress
The wedding morning is busy. A trial means every choice is already made, so on the day I simply recreate a look we both love while you relax with your people. We’ll also map out timings, talk through a simple touch-up plan, and sort out any little worries — long-wear in the Perth heat, photos, or how it reads on camera.
It’s also when we confirm the practical details: your getting-ready location, how many people are having makeup, and travel. If you’re marrying in the Swan Valley or further out, we plan the schedule around that so the morning never feels rushed.
When to book it
Aim for four to eight weeks out. Your skin, any tan and your hair colour will be close to wedding-day reality, but there’s still room to adjust. Because I take one wedding a day, it’s worth locking in your date early and slotting the trial in once it’s confirmed — then the only thing left to do on the morning is enjoy it.
